LEGO 2006 Sets

2006 was yet another great year for LEGO collectors and investors. 2006 saw a staggering 292 sets released, not including gear or books, with 33 promotional and not for retail sets.

Based on the 292 sets released for that year, the retail value was $8,807.88 with a current value of $51,856.60 for the combined new/factory sealed sets. As of present, the best performing theme for 2006 is currently Dino Attack which has seen an average annual growth of upwards of 25% to date. All together 2006 saw the release of sets covering 16 themes and 48 subthemes with Bionicle having the highest release count of 47 sets.

2006 for LEGO was a year of new themes being introduced and a number of well known themes being retired. LEGO in 2006 introduced and discontinued The Avatar: The Last Airbender, introduced the original Batman theme, Exo-Force, Mindstorms NXT, SpongeBob SquarePants, Remote control Trains and Aqua Raiders. However, the following themes were discontinued; Clikits, Vikings. While LEGO Sports was re-introduced in 2006 with a couple Soccer/Football sets.

2006 also so a number of highly collectable investment sets being released which included the Star War Vader's TIE Advanced (10175-1), the Boeing 787 Dreamliner (10177-1) and the Technic Tow Truck (8285-1). Additionally, the two set The Avatar: The Last Airbender theme produced very high growth sets.
