The Caterham Seven certainly is a tricky car to turn into Lego, so for the most part the original Ideas builder and the Lego designer did a good job. I still think it could be refined to make a more solid, finalized product. It was very fun to build, cool to see how they solved the problem that is the Seven's unique body shape.
The build techniques were fun and unique, piece selection could hardly be faulted and you can tell both the person who submitted the idea/original design and the Lego employees who ultimately delivered it really sweat the details.
The downsides are that I wouldn't recommend it for a child or for 'play'. It's really a display piece.
Other than that, while the pieces used were excellent, some of the attachment mechanisms are only okay.
The dash isn't held in very well and the angled bars on the roll cage don't attach to the rest of the cage.
Overall I'd give the Caterham a 9.
If you're debating this or the F40 and you can swing the extra $, I'd go for the F40. It's simply a better and more complex build that is an instant collectible.
Great design and fit (would you expect anything else from Lego?). Finish is awesome. All graphics are printed on. No decals to deal with. Large piece count and took a few lazy afternoons to finish. Would highly recommend.
