The house is really big with tons of windows and some of them sporting cool stickers and some with broken window panes and boards. There are two windows in the back but they're just windows. Most of the house is made out of sand green bricks and a few tan and gray bricks. The chimney on the side is a nice feature and goes all the way up the three floors of spookiness. The front porch steps look broken and in need of repair. What I really like is the pillars with the zombie heads on top, very creepy. This house has a front door and a back door that both open of course. The haunted house opens like a doll house with the living room with no chairs or anything, a sweet fireplace with a ship in a bottle on the mantle, a kitchen with a snake, a cobweb, a stove featuring two pots and pans and an oven. There is also a table with a big pot and two bottles. Back in the living room walk up the stairs to see a picture of the werewolf hanging above the stairs and a table for writing a letter and a chair. Also right beside the table is a feather quill and a bottle of ink sitting on another chair. The room right beside it is none other than Lord Vampyre's bedroom with tons of neat accessories like a deer head and another few pictures and a cabinet, but that's not all. Flip the secret lever to reveal the folding ladder to the attic and climb up......in there is a tub, a chest, a stack of newspapers, a knights helmet, some potions, and much, much more. But my favorite is the record player, I have never seen one of these in a LEGO set before and it has interchangeable records for it. Pure LEGO genius.
The monster butler and the zombie chef are exclusive to this set and are some of my favorite monsters. The butler has a black tuxedo and carries a tray with drinks on it. The zombie chef has a food-stained shirt and a funny baker's hat. Lord Vampyre and the bride are the same as the ones in the castle so I'm not going to bother reviewing them. And the two ghosts don't have regular minifig legs like they do in the ghost train but instead have a block for feet and are noticeably shorter than all of the other minifigs, though I like it better. The Vampyre heads and the ghosts glow-in-the-dark.
I didn't cover all of the awesome features of this absolutely amazing set so you should see the rest for yourself. It took me a day and a half to build this though it was just me working alone. Overall I would recommend this to ANY lego fan as it is not just a monster fighters set since any LEGO fan should like this. Overall one of the most enjoyable sets I've ever built and I would recommend this to any LEGO fan.
The biggest issue I have is the price for what you get. When you finally have it all put together you may find yourself wondering where your one hundred eighty dollars went to. I think the price per piece is eight or nine cent and its gonna be up to the individual to figure if its worth it but I will leave that to you. It is small for the price as well because the pics makes it look like you might be able to vacation there with your friends and family inside but its simply not so. Personally I think the set is more of a one hundred and forty dollar or so price tag but two thousand pieces is quite a bit to have fun with nonetheless. Seems like it should of cost a little more than the castle but not by much. The box is also massive which is weird with what it builds to and the little bags in it. Lastly for this paragraph as a thirty year old man I had lots of fun building this mansion.
There are lots of good things to be had from this set though. I love the way it opens like a dollhouse which makes its insides easy to get to. The issue with that is how bland the inside looks though its not terrible it just seems like there should be more there. It does have what you would probably expect from a old run down looking house and I will say the outside looks amazing and its far by my favorite with boards over the windows and panels hanging off. It just looks fantastic on the outside though the color palette is really around five or so basic colors it still pulls off the look. My daughter loves her Lego Friends but I think this is her new favorite as well though its more something I would be into. I was thinking of having it run down on the outside and lots of purple and pink on the inside.
It took around six or so hours to make but I didn't sit down at one time to do it so you may be able to get it done quicker. One thing I notice is with these sets like Lego Friends or the Monster Fighters is I have to super glue certain parts since they just fall off so easy. It kind of defeats the purpose of Lego blocks when you glue them together but my daughter and I plan to make some brick films later with it so we need to make sure its sturdy. The structure overall is very solid and found I only had to glue certain pieces to ensure its sturdiness so it has a great build along with a good weight. Though it is two thousand pieces they are really small so it sounds like a lot but it really isn't. That is always my gripe about Lego blocks when you have a thousand pieces and there are a ton of little pieces such as the one dot blocks or those tiny pieces and a lack of structure with big blocks.
I can't see a kid building this by themselves but with a little help I think they will have no problem. Since it is the most expensive of the Monster Fighters sets I wish it came with more figures as well. One thing I didn't like was the way the instructions went about what blocks were needed. There were around four or so numbers one through four bags which had ten million pieces out at once which was kind of annoying. So many bags with the same numbers made things overly complicated but not by much. If you hate the actual process of putting your Legos together for your kids you might find it overly annoying.
It doesn't come with any glow in the dark stuff besides the ghosts which is weird being that most do. I wish the gate that comes with the house actually connected to it somehow or if it was a warp around fence. The size of the set is a minor quirk as well as the inside of the house but those are minor. If you think its worth it or if you love your Legos I think you should absolutely get it but if you think the price is too steep you might be disappointed. I am happy and somewhat disappointed at the same time but I am no doubt sure my daughter and I will have lots of fun.
My 11-year-old son built this over the course of 2 days, and I think it's one of those sets that will be on display in our house for a long time. But I'll confess, I'm tempted to buy some extra pieces to convert it to an unhaunted version. It's just so beautiful.
