In 2016 LEGO released 8 Minecraft sets across 2 subthemes. The largest Minecraft set from 2016 was
21128 The Village with a piece count of 1600 and a retail price of $199.99. The current estimated value of all these Minecraft sets from this year is about $1,621.22 which represents a 305.9% growth.
The LEGO Minecraft theme is based on the video game Minecraft and a collaboration between Mojang and the LEGO Group. Minecraft is a sandbox indie game originally created by Swedish programmer Notch (Markus Persson) and later developed and published by Mojang / Microsoft. The official release occurred in 2013 with the first set, Minecraft: Micro World: The Forest, released under LEGO Ideas and was created by Mojang through the LEGO CUUSOO program in 2012. At MineCon 2013, LEGO announced brand new minifigure-scale Minecraft sets.
2016 LEGO Sets
2016 saw some truly iconic releases with sets from Ghostbusters and the introduction of the Nexo Knights. LEGO also released the licensed, but short-lived The Angry Birds Movie theme. However, LEGO did discontinue Legends of Chima, Pirates and also the LEGO Simpsons which only did see a couple of sets. The Creator theme really shined in 2016 with the release of the Volkswagen Beetle (10252-1) and Big Ben (10253-1). The shining star that year for investors was certainly the Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters and pretty much all the Speed Champions sets which have seen growth in the triple digits.
